Something Old, Something New

For a long time now I've been interested in cooking leeks, but always too intimidated to try. They remind me first of all of Pokémon because of a bit of trivia that's stuck in my head ever since the Red-Blue days:
Farfetch'd, a Wild Duck Pokémon. Farfetch'd makes a delicious meal, especially when cooked with leek. Because of this, Farfetch'd is nearly extinct.
(See! This proves that people DO eat Pokémon!) And after that, I think of Sumerians, because they apparently loved leeks more than anything. They also hated turnips, which just goes to show that they had good judgment all around. Because leeks are good.

Earlier today I made myself some traditional potato-and-leek soup, and I was converted. I decided to use the rest of the leek from earlier tonight and make something familiar. And thus, pizza was born!

This is a whole-wheat flatbread pizza with black-pepper-and-sage-infused alfredo sauce, leeks, mushrooms, and little gobs of my own lemony white-bean hummus. It's fragrant but mellow, with a nice dichotomy between the sweet leeks and tangy hummus. Two thumbs up! Obviously I dined alone tonight, though ;).

  2. Thank you! And it MUST have been a good pizza, because the leftovers even tasted good for breakfast :).
