So I've been watching this season of Top Chef pretty seriously ever since Jake moved in and has impressed the gravity of this show upon me. One competitor, Kenny, seems to almost always takes the challenge item and dress it "two ways" for presentation. He's a huge show off, but it works in home kitchens too! For example, this pretty dinner of a couple nights ago:
owed most its glory to, well, leftovers!
These nice little spinach and herb stuffing filled tomatoes served with white beans and a poached egg were a great light dinner and even good cold for lunch the next day, though I wouldn't say "no" to having them for breakfast some day too! And, would you believe it? The stuffing's totally from scratch! I chopped and toasted the bread, made my own veggie stock, used herbs from my little porch garden, and I couldn't be more pleased. I even made the bread, as you can see in this kind of yicky low-light photo:
My own clam chowder served in a bread bowl the night before yielded a lot of unused "middle bread" from these rounds. I didn't want it to go to waste, but I still think it's fair to call these couple dishes "bread two ways"... at least in my own mind!
