Go Ask Alice

So the reason why I'm posting so many fashion-related things in the last few days is because I need groceries and have generally just been terribly uninspired in the kitchen. As you may have noticed, I have several blogs linked at the bottom of the right column here on The Berries, and these blogs are all either food or fashion related! I've really become more conscious of my sartorial decisions in the last year or so, and really like that in the Age of the Internet there are so many resources for folks quirky styles (or even just straight-up style!) to see what each other are doing. For example, today I am doing this:

cardigan- The 15 Dollar Store, dress- Old Navy, slip- hand-me-down from mom, tights- Walgreens, shoes- ?, headband and necklace- made by moi

"This" pretty much equals "figuring out a self-timer but being unable to pose for a picture if she tried (and she did)", but I think it's cute anyhow! I took these between classes this morning, drinking a pot of tea and reading Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. So precious. It turns out that that moody blue dress I ordered is kind of more of a cornflower blue, just a tich lighter and greyer than Disney's Alice's dress! So I wore a white slip beneath my dress today so a little of the lace would peak out sometimes because that's just darling.

I tend to dress pretty whimsically mostly every day. I mean, I haven't worn any manner of shorts or pants since late May or early June, so it's a given that I'm going to be wearing a dress, but I don't always dress like a children's book character or anything (not that there's anything wrong with that). On the other hand, I don't mind looking like I put in effort to come up with an interesting color combination or variety of textures. In my head I may be intending an homage to Alice or Little Red Riding Hood or the wintery beach or a blueberry princess or whatever else, but I don't want it to be a neon sign flashing over my head. Subtlety is key, though I probably still stand out. At this point in my life I really don't care because the way I see it, I'm comfortable and really enjoy what I see when I happen to walk past reflective surfaces-- and that's the point of fashion,  whatever you happen to be wearing.

...even if other people might think you're a dork :).
