This and That

As you may have noticed, I'm once again in a pretty uninspired state of mind as far as food goes. I've been eating a lot of my home made bread with various spreads, and of course plenty of fruit.

And yeah, that pretty cool looking trio of scrapes? I clawed myself with a fork, while whipping together honey butter. I am terribly clumsy. I hope you can see the pretty golden freckles on the apple, though-- I took it to a lecture with me and that's all I kept staring at.

I also made some pretty good soup tonight:

The broth is from my frozen stores of home made chicken stock, to which I added soy sauce, a few mushrooms, some brown rice, cubed tofu, shredded carrots and kombu, and a handful of peas. Isn't it the most disgustingly healthy thing you've ever seen in a bowl? But it wasn't disgusting, it was delicious. So there.

This picture was obviously taken without sunlight and so is rather more distasteful than the first two, but it shows what I had for dinner last night. I whipped up some meatballs and had them with pasta, a mixed salad with olives and Italian dressing, and home made garlic bread. How homey! And filling.

While eating dinner I watched a really good movie-- Sita Sings the Blues-- which was done almost entirely by one woman. "Almost entirely" only because there are a couple other narrators, but all the animation (in about 5 different styles) was done by just her. Sita weaves the story of her own divorce into the Indian epic, the Ramayana, in a way that is powerful, sweet, extremely poignant, and even funny in the bittersweet way life can be sometimes. It's also a musical, using recordings from the 1940's as Sita's titular "blues". If you find yourself with an hour and a half to spare, please watch his film! You'll be glad you did.
