I mean I had already baked the bread:
...and marinated the mushrooms:
(They're in a green dish, not actually radioactive!)
And set aside milk and biscotti:
What else could one want? Where do I start....
Since I couldn't picnic outside today I decided to just have lunch indoors, make-your-own sandwich style. Why does it seem so much more exciting to slice bread yourself and pile on your cold cuts and cheese just moments before you eat it than it is to eat one premade? I don't know, but I don't think there's anything simpler than the kind of open-faced sandwiches that come from gathering disparate easily portable fridge stuff.
The mushrooms were lovely. I made my own marinade out of olive oil, vinegar, salt, Italian seasoning, a pinch of dried red pepper, and lots of garlic. After scoring the caps I merely mixed everything up and let it hang out in the fridge for a few hours. I'm sure you could use any premade vinaigrette and just make it the night before, too. Make sure have a little extra for dipping bread into!
Seriously, I'm so proud of myself for getting over my "fruit and savory nooooooo" problem. Mainly because I was missing out on something truly delicious! Brie, turkey kielbasa, and fuji apple taste so lovely together. As you can see, this lunch turned into a bit of a tea party for one.
Fuji apples are the best apples. And it still makes me just as happy to cut apples "the wrong way" to reveal their stars as it did when I was in elementary school.
Even though I had a really great time without actually going on a trek today, I was excited to go exploring. I was mad at myself for leaving my tripod at home! Ms. Nature left me all dressed up with no place to go...
cardigan- Target, dress- Roxy, ring and necklace- gifts from mom
Don't worry about me, though. I'll get over her. *sniffle sniffle* She's missing out anyway because I look super cute today.
One last picture, a detail shot. I'm so happy with my colors right now! While it is only my second favorite color overall, green is definitely my favorite color to wear. I have olive-toned skin and green brings that out without making me look sallow. I'm also pretty pale though, so light greys and whites help keeping me from looking too pasty. And my eyes are green, so it's pretty complimentary all around :). This was actually apparently the last remaining dress of this color and style available anywhere-- and in my size! We were destined to be.
I wanted to show off this necklace and ring though, both gifts from my mom over the course of two Christmases. I wear the ring every day and have gotten so many compliments on it. It's turned a little funny in the picture, but you can see that it's a leaf made of mother-of-pearl with silver accents. And the necklace is the moodiest shade of labradorite and makes me feel both super dainty and really fancy when I wear it.

Moral of this story: Nature, you don't know who you're missing (and what lunch you're missing with that someone), so get nice already!
